Creamy Spinach and Cheese Baked Salmon

This Creamy Spinach and Cheese Baked Salmon is a rich, comforting, and elegant dinner that feels restaurant-worthy but is surprisingly easy to make at home. Tender, flaky salmon fillets are seasoned perfectly, topped with buttery garlic spinach, and finished with a luscious creamy mozzarella and parmesan cheese sauce that turns golden and bubbly in the oven.

It’s the perfect recipe for busy weeknights, family dinners, or even special occasions when you want something both healthy and indulgent. Packed with protein, healthy omega-3 fats, and nutrient-rich spinach, this dish is both delicious and nourishing.

    Ingredients

    For the Salmon

    • 500 g salmon fillet
    • Salt and black pepper, to taste
    • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
    • 1 tablespoon olive oil

    For the Spinach Layer

    • 200 g fresh spinach
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • Salt and black pepper, to taste

    For the Creamy Cheese Topping

    • 1/2 cup heavy cream (30%)
    • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
    • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
    • 2 tablespoons cream cheese (or soft cheese spread)
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

    Instructions

    Step 1: Prepare the Salmon

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Season the salmon fillets with salt, black pepper, and sweet paprika. Place them in a lightly greased baking dish and drizzle with olive oil.

    Step 2: Cook the Spinach

In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Add the fresh spinach and cook until wilted and tender. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

    Remove from heat.

    Step 3: Layer the Spinach

Spoon a generous portion of the cooked spinach over each salmon fillet, spreading it evenly.

Step 4: Prepare the Creamy Cheese Topping

    In a bowl, combine:

    • heavy cream
    • mozzarella cheese
    • parmesan cheese
    • cream cheese
    • garlic powder

Mix well until smooth and creamy.

Spread this mixture evenly over the spinach-covered salmon.

    Step 5: Bake

Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the salmon is fully cooked and the cheese topping is golden, bubbly, and slightly crispy on top.

    Step 6: Serve

Serve hot, spooning some of the creamy cheese sauce from the baking dish over the top.

Enjoy with rice, mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a fresh green salad.

    Helpful Tips

    Use Fresh Salmon

Fresh salmon gives the best flavor and texture, but thawed frozen salmon works well too.

    Don’t Overcook

Bake just until the salmon flakes easily with a fork to keep it juicy and tender.

    Add Lemon

A squeeze of fresh lemon juice before serving adds brightness and balances the richness.

    Extra Crispy Top

Broil for the last 2–3 minutes for an even more golden and crispy cheese topping.

    Lighter Version

Use light cream, Greek yogurt, or reduced-fat cream cheese for a lighter option.

    Delicious Variations

    Mushroom Version

Add sautéed mushrooms to the spinach layer for extra flavor and texture.

    Spicy Version

Sprinkle red pepper flakes or add chili powder for a spicy kick.

    Mediterranean Style

Add sun-dried tomatoes, olives, and feta cheese for a Mediterranean twist.

    Gluten-Free Option

Skip any pastry or thickener ingredients and keep the recipe naturally gluten-free.
